Dashboard Overview

Understanding the TroopBook interface

TL;DR: Left sidebar = navigation, top bar = search (⌘K), main area = content. Use ⌘K to jump anywhere fast.


Interface Layout

Three main areas:

  • Left Sidebar - Navigation menu
  • Top Bar - Search and user menu
  • Main Content - Active page

Quick Search (⌘K)

Press Cmd+K (Mac) or Ctrl+K (Windows) to search:

  • Members - Find by name
  • Units - Find dens/patrols
  • Events - Find activities
  • Communications - Find announcements
  • Quick Actions - Add Member, Create Event, Send Newsletter

Navigation: Use ↑↓ arrows, Enter to select, Escape to close

Top Bar

Search Icon - Opens search (⌘K) User Menu - Account settings, sign out

Dashboard Home

When you first load TroopBook:

Overview Stats:

  • Total members, active youth, active adults, inactive count

Upcoming Events:

  • Next 3 events with dates and locations
  • Click to view details or manage RSVPs

Recent Communications:

  • Latest emails sent or scheduled
  • Click to view or edit

Quick Actions:

  • Add Member, Create Event, Send Newsletter
Keyboard: Use Cmd+K for quick access to anything. Much faster than clicking through menus.

Breadcrumbs: Top of page shows where you are

Dashboard > Members > John Smith

Direct URLs: Bookmark frequently-used pages

  • /dashboard/members - All members
  • /dashboard/events - Events list
  • /dashboard/settings/organization - Organization settings

Mobile Experience

On phones/tablets:

  • Hamburger menu (☰) toggles sidebar
  • Full-screen search overlay
  • Responsive tables scroll horizontally if needed

Common Workflows

Find a member:

  1. Press Cmd+K
  2. Type name
  3. Click result

Create event:

  1. Events → Create Event
  2. Fill details
  3. Save

Send newsletter:

  1. Communications → New
  2. Add recipients
  3. Write message
  4. Send or schedule
